Rock’n’Roll legend LITTLE RICHARD is set to be joined by a host of contemporary hip hop and R&B stars, including BUSTA RHYMES and BRANDY, in an updated version of screen classic ‘THE WIZARD OF OZ’.
In the Fox broadcasting television film, tentatively titled ‘The O.Z.’, Brandy will play Dorothy, Little Richard will take the role of the Wizard, while Busta Rhymes will become Cowardly Lion, Queen Latifah will take Glenda the Good Witch, Ginuwine will become the Scarecrow and R&B outfit IMX will surface as the flying monkeys.
Randall Kleiser, the man who shot John Travolta to fame in ‘Grease’, will direct.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the film will find Dorothy as a successful but lonely hip hop producer in Los Angeles. Following a massive earthquake, she and Toto will be transported to the strange new land of big O.Z.
Production has not yet begun, and there is no provisional broadcast date available.
It marks Brandy’s third appearance in a TV musical, following spots in ‘Cinderella’ opposite Whitney Houston and in ‘Double Platinum’ with Diana Ross.
