A whole new raft of acts have been announced for Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2019, as the line-up for the free festival grows ever stronger.
It was confirmed last month that Middlesbrough will play host to the event this year, with an impressive bill led by Miley Cyrus, The 1975 and Mumford & Sons.
Now, it’s been announced that they’ll be joined by a stellar supporting bill. Speaking on Radio 1’s Breakfast Show this morning, host Greg James confirmed that fans can also expect performances from the likes of Stormzy, Billie Eilish, Vampire Weekend, Bring Me The Horizon, Pale Waves and Sigrid.
Other new names joining the festival include Lewis Capaldi, Ellie Goulding, The Amazons, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Sam Fender, Two Door Cinema Club, Anne Marie and Sean Paul.
Ticket details have also been confirmed for the event, which takes place at Middlesbrough’s Stewart Park on May 25 and 26. They’ll go on sale at 5PM on Thursday (March 14) and you can find out all the relevant information here.
The latest edition of the festival comes after it headed to Swansea in 2018, with a line-up that included George Ezra, Taylor Swift, Camilla Cabello and Florence & The Machine.
Describing the event, James previously told NME: “It’s like Christmas at Radio One when we do Biggest Weekend, and it’s like the worst Boxing Day feeling after it! I really hate doing that show on Monday, because we have to come all the way back for it and we’re all knackered and hungover.
“It’s a chance to see acts who don’t usually do festival shows, and a lot of people who come to the Big/Biggest Weekend aren’t used to going to festivals themselves. It could be a lot of kids’ first festivals and I think that’s a great thing. They’re just the most brilliant thing to be a part of.”
