Florence And The Machine take MasterCard British Album prize at Brit Awards 2010

Florence Welch picks up her first award of the night

Florence And The Machine‘s debut ‘Lungs’ has won the Brit Award for the MasterCard British Album tonight (February 16).

Frontwoman Florence Welch was seemingly shocked to pick up the award at the London ceremony, and referenced her win last year for the Critics’ Choice Award.

“Thanks so much for having me back! There are so many people who helped me make this album,” she explained, before thanking her management and record label, as well as producers Paul Epworth, James Ford and Steve Mackey.

“I’m having the best time!” Welch added, before running offstage.

The acts nominated for MasterCard British Album were:

Dizzee Rascal – ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’
Florence And The Machine – ‘Lungs’
Kasabian – ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’
Lily Allen – ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’
Paolo Nutini – ‘Sunny Side Up’
