British Sea Power are set to tour the UK playing shows with a host of regional brass bands.
The ‘Sea of Brass’ tour will see the band touring the autumn, gigging with the Redbridge Brass Band, Riverside Brass Band, Ulverston Town Brass Band and more. The shows will be launched with a special one-off summer date on July 17 at the Durham International Festival, with the NASUWT Riverside Brass Band. The tour then begins on October 24 at De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill with accompaniment from the Redbridge Brass Band.
The tour is five dates long and will finish on November 8 at a secret venue in Kendal with the Ulverston Town Brass Band. The project’s music arranger Peter Wraight has said of the tour:
“I wanted to create Brass Band arrangements which made full use of the forces within a 28-piece Brass Band. I didn’t want to lean on some of the pastoral associations with brass music but instead create something challenging for the players and hugely rewarding for the listener. It’s about playing with textures, and I am using a full percussion section to compliment the toned instruments and create drama and excitement.”
