Britney Spears held for three-day psychiatric evaluation

Singer remains in hospital, mum says she's 'OK'

Britney Spears is still in hospital after being escorted there from her home by ambulance and police on Thursday (January 31).

The troubled singer has been on a downward spiral since the weekend and it has been reported that she has not slept for over 60 hours, reports Reuters.

It is reported her family, psychiatrist and police had been plotting the intervention for days as Spears had become more and more unstable.

Friends and experts fear she is suffering from bipolar disorder, which is characterised by mood swings, and would not been helped by the caffeine drinks she has been photographed buying.

Spears’ manager Sam Lufti told reporters that the pop star is now being held for 72 hours so that doctors can evaluate her situation.

He told People Magazine: “She went willingly. It was like something in her heart was telling her she should go. She knew something was wrong.”

Due to confidentiality laws the UCLA Medical Center, where Spears was taken on Thursday, will not confirm whether she is staying at the hospital.

However Spears’ mother and father were pictured leaving the hospital that night.

When asked if her daughter was “Ok” by reporters Lynne Spears simply replied: “Yes”.
