There are tears among the 3,000 or so devotees waiting for her hero in Leicester Square - including some who had travelled from South Africa...

Britney Spears scored a serious PR own goal last night (March 25) at the UK premiere of her film ‘CROSSROADS’ when she was booed and jeered after snubbing fans.

Around 3,000 fans waited for hours for the star who, on arrival an hour late, was whisked past them into the Odeon on Leicester Square without stopping to greet them or pose for photographs.

Despite a brief re-appearance on the cinema’s balcony, many young fans – some of whom had travelled from South Africa – were left in tears.

Then, seemingly keen to avoid awkward questions about her allegedly rocky relationship with *N Sync

singer Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears walked out of the premiere ten minutes before the end.

Huddled under a friend’s leather jacket, she left the cinema and made a beeline back to her hotel as the celebrity-studded crowd made the five-minute cab ride across town to Piccadilly’s In And Out club for a lavish aftershow party.

Easily the hottest ticket in town all week, the Britney Spears premiere attracted

the English pop world ‘elite’, who necked free cranberry and vodkas, schnapps and white wine.

The news that their Mis-Teeq friend Asher D had just been sentenced to 18 months in prison didn’t seem to have phased UK garage pop queens Britney Spears, who looked like real superstars.

Decked out in ghetto fabulous wide brimmed hats, the three girls had seats at the screening just down the aisle from Britney Spears ‘s sizeable entourage. Failed ‘Popstars’ Liberty X were also spotted, as were rising boyband Blue.

Riding high on the back of two smash hit singles, the Blue boys attracted screaming and hysteria from the fans outside the cinema.

Other guests included Ben and Christian from a1, fading IT girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Damage, Rachel and Tina from[a][/a], TV presenters Dani Behr and Sara Cawood, Boy George (sporting a diamante studded leather jacket with ‘Earth Girls Are Easy’ on the back), Sugababes, Aaron Carter and Charlotte Church.
