After GERI HALLIWELL threw her weight behind LABOUR earlier this week in the run-up to the UK GENERAL ELECTION, the latest star to join the pop party is BRITNEY SPEARS, who is this morning (May 16) reported to have joined her in backing LABOUR.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Labour spin doctor Alistair Campbell – a fan of Britney, who plays her CDs on the campaign bus – received a signed photo and good luck from the popster.

The tabloid quotes a source as saying: “Alistair’s jaw dropped when it arrived and he’s put up a big ‘Britney Backs Blair’ poster above the picture.”

Campbell told the newspaper: “I think your readers will be more interested in issues like economic stability, rising living standards, record investment in schools and hospitals and the Tory shambles on tax than in showbiz gossip.”

Geri Halliwell appeared in a Labour Party election broadcast on Monday.
