'Femme Fatale' singer welcomes competition from UK artists
Spears, who released her seventh studio album ‘Femme Fatale’ earlier this year, told Stylist that she enjoyed competing with newer stars as it made her “want to do better”.
The singer, who caused controversy in London in October when she was accused of glamorising gun use and gang culture in the video for her single ‘Criminal’, which was filmed in Hackney, said: “I think it’s great to have a little competition because I feel it inspires us [Team Britney] and makes us want to do better.”
She went on to add:
Both Jessie J and Adele have enjoyed widespread success in 2011. J topped the BBC Sound Of 2011 poll in January and, after the release of her debut album ‘Who You Are’, went on to claim four gongs at this year’s MOBO Awards.
Earlier this month, meanwhile, Adele‘s second album ’21’ became the first LP to sell a million copies on iTunes in Europe. The record is also the biggest selling digital album in US history, and her hit ‘Someone Like You’ is the first single to sell over a million copies in the UK this decade.
