Hacker disseminates false message on her Twitpic account
A hacker has disseminated false information using Britney Spears‘ Twitpic account reporting that the pop star had died.
The message, posted earlier today (June 29), read: “Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come.”
The message was followed up with another Twitter posting, presumably from Spears‘ camp, saying, “Britney’s Twitter was just hacked. The last message is obviously not true. She is fine and dandy spending a quiet day at home relaxing”.
Twitpic Inc responded by saying that the ‘announcement’ of Spears‘ death should be disregarded, adding that they have “implemented a fix for the email posting vulnerability, a full blog post explaining the issue will be released soon”.
Twitpic is a programme that allows Twitter users to post photos to their Twitter accounts, but it is not owned by Twitter Inc.
