The rock legend drained the glass mid-song in Philadelphia earlier this week
Bruce Springsteen downed a fan’s glass of beer during his performance with The E Street Band earlier this week in Philadelphia (March 28). Scroll down to see audience shot video of the incident.
The ‘Wrecking Ball’ rocker left the stage during his performance of ‘Raise Your Hand’ and walked amongst the crowd. He paused the song to sit down in a fan’s seat and was then handed a beer, which he took a sip of. He then stood to toast the crowd before returning to the seat and downing the rest in one go before heading back to the stage to complete the song.
Earlier this month Bruce Springsteen hit out at the people who have branded him a ‘phony patriot’. In an interview with The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart for Rolling Stone, Springsteen spoke out against critics who persist on putting labels on his music.
The singer, who recently celebrated his ninth Number One album with ‘Wrecking Ball’, said he wouldn’t baulk under the pressure from others to change what he writes about or tone down his political views. Springsteen told Jon Stewart: “Lately, it seems as if the polarisation of the country has gotten so extreme that people want to force you into being either a phony ‘patriot’ or an ‘apologist’.”
Earlier this month Springsteen gave the keynote speech at SXSW, where he told the crowd that he first picked up a guitar after being inspired by “the passion in Elvis’ pants”.
The Wrecking Ball world tour visits Europe this summer.
