E Street Band’s Danny Federici passes away

Springsteen cohort battled melanoma

E Street Band keyboardist and organist Danny Federici passed away yesterday in New York after a three-year illness. He was 58.

The musician, who worked with Bruce Springsteen for 40 years died at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City as a result of melanoma.

In a statement posted on his website Springsteen said:

Danny and I worked together for 40 years – he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much…we grew up together.”

As previously reported, Federici played an emotional show with the band in November in Boston, before leaving to undergo treatment. He was replaced by Charles Giordano.

He reportedly joined Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band for a few songs during a show on March 20 at the Indianapolis Conseco Field House.

In addition to his role in the E Street Band, Federici released two solo jazz albums ‘Flemington’ and ‘Sweet’.

Bruce Springsteen has postponed shows scheduled this weekend in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
