New York branch of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame planned

CBGB, Bruce Springsteen memorabilia to be displayed

Music memorabilia including a phone booth from CBGB is set to be included in a New York subsidiary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which will open in November.

The branch of the museum will be located in SoHo, and other pieces which will go on display are Bruce Springsteen’s first car, a 1957 Chevy Convertible.

Interactive maps of the city will show tourists historical venues dotted around the city from Studio 54 to Hotel Chelsea.

“There really isn’t a more fitting spot for this museum than New York, the home town of Hall of Famers like the Velvet Underground, Paul Simon, and Blondie,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Wednesday (August 13).

Billy Joel was also present at the conference and told reporters: “I started playing in clubs in New York City at the Gaslight Cafe, The Bitter End, Max’s Kansas City, and then had the good fortune to go on and play the other venues in this city. New York gave me my words and my music, and rock and roll gave me a place for that music to live.”
