Bruce Springsteen has decided he will not run for the US Senate, despite the best efforts of a powerful political lobby group.

As reported on NME.COM yesterday (May 17), Independence For New Jersey, led by Doug Friedline – the man who groomed former WWF wrestler Jesse ‘The Ace’ Ventura turning him into Jesse Ventura, Minnesota Governor – had hoped to convince The Boss to run as an independent in November’s Senate race.

However, Bruce Springsteen, who had been silent about his intentions since initially approached by the group last December, has said no. According to Billboard, a spokesperson for the New Jersey blue collar hero delivered a statement from him paraphrasing a rebuff by Civil War Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman; it said simply: “If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.”
