Bruce Springsteen brands Donald Trump a “moron” who has a country “under siege”

The Boss also shares his views on Trump's Presidential rival Hillary Clinton

Bruce Springsteen has branded Donald Trump a “moron” who has the United States of America “under siege”.

The rock icon shares his views on the incredibly divisive Republican Presidential candidate in a new interview, calling Trump’s political platform “a tragedy for our democracy”.

Asked what he thinks of the businessman’s meteoric rise in the world of politics, Springsteen tells Rolling Stone: “Well, you know, the republic is under siege by a moron, basically. The whole thing is tragic. Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy.”

Springsteen adds later: “The ideas he’s moving to the mainstream are all very dangerous ideas – white nationalism and the alt-right movement.”

“I believe that there’s a price being paid for not addressing the real cost of the deindustrialization and globalisation that has occurred in the United States for the past 35, 40 years and how it’s deeply affected people’s lives and deeply hurt people to where they want someone who says they have a solution,” Springsteen continues. “And Trump’s thing is simple answers to very complex problems. Fallacious answers to very complex problems. And that can be very appealing.”

Later in the interview, Springsteen endorses Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, saying: “I like Hillary. I think she would be a very, very good president.”

Springsteen’s eagerly-anticipated memoir Born To Run is published by Simon & Schuster on Tuesday (September 27). Springsteen began writing Born To Run privately in 2009, before the deal with Simon & Schuster was announced in 2015.

On Friday (September 23), he released a companion album called ‘Chapter & Verse’. The album sees Springsteen choose 18 songs from across his career which he feels are reflective of the themes in the book.
