Springsteen’s expansive boxset will contain 52 tracks on four CDs with previously unreleased material featuring alongside four hours of never-before-seen video on three DVDs.
The boxset will include the 1980 double-album and feature outtakes and demos from ‘The River’ sessions recorded between 1979 and 1980. Entitled ‘The River: Single Album’, Springsteen will release 10 previously unreleased tracks he recorded in 1979 as a follow up to 1978’s ‘Darkness On The Edge Of Town.’
The New Jersey singer will also include a new 60-minute documentary entitled ‘The Ties That Bind’, in which he will detail the tumultuous writing and recording process behind the album. A second disc includes footage from the recording process, backstage footage, solo acoustic performances of album tracks and interviews with his band.
The double-album gave Springsteen his first US Number One Record and resulted in an extensive touring period. The third disc presents Springsteen’s show with the E Street Band from Tempe, Arizona on the 1980 River Tour, including over two and a half hours worth of footage and 24 songs.
‘The Ties That Bind: The River Collection’ is packaged in a 10-inch by 12-inch box with a hardcover 148-page coffee table book that contains 200 studio and live photographs.
In 2010 Springsteen provided a similar box-set treatment for ‘Darkness On The Edge Of Town.’
