Bruno Mars calls for hip-hop Super Bowl halftime show

"It would be the best party Tv has ever seen!"

Bruno Mars has called for the NFL to organise a hip-hop halftime show next year, featuring performances from the likes of Lil Jon, Outkast and Gucci Mane.

The ‘Finesse’ singer, who headlined the halftime show in 2014, appealed to the NFL on Twitter after it was announced that the 2019 Super Bowl will be held in Atlanta.

The city is widely considered to be the modern home of hip-hop in America and the home city of artists including Migos, Gucci Mane, and Outkast.

Posting on Twitter, Mars wrote: “@NFL you have the opportunity to celebrate incredible Hip Hop Artist from Atlanta next year”.

He added: “Outkast. T.I Gucci, lil jon, Jeezy, Jermaine Dupri just to name a few. it would be the best party Tv has ever seen!”

This year’s Superbowl halftime show was headlined by Justin Timberlake on Sunday night – and it received a largely muted response.

In our official verdict, NME wrote: “Cameraphones flashed around him, but what they would have caught was not a man closing out a triumphant performance, but one that was uninspired, mediocre, and – Prince tribute aside – instantly forgettable. ”

Mars, meanwhile, will return to London’s Hyde Park this summer for a huge British Summertime show – where he’ll be joined by a support line up including Khalid.
