It drops April 12
BTS have discussed their forthcoming album ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’, which they say is “therapeutic”.
The K-pop seven-piece, who release their seventh studio album on April 12, spoke about the follow-up to their ‘Love Yourself’ project – ‘LOVE YOURSELF: Answer’ and ‘LOVE YOURSELF: Tear’ – which were released in 2018.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the band were hazy on details but said the new record will be “therapeutic” and has a “refreshing crispness”.
Elsewhere in the interview, the band spoke about their ambitions to get a Grammy nomination and top the Hot 100 singles chart in the US.
“I don’t want to compare, but I think it’s even harder as an Asian group,” bandmember RM said. “A Hot 100 and a Grammy nomination, these are our goals. But they’re just goals — we don’t want to change our identity or our genuineness to get the number one.
“Like if we sing suddenly in full English, and change all these other things, then that’s not BTS. We’ll do everything, we’ll try. But if we couldn’t get number one or number five, that’s okay.”
The band also made history in 2018 by becoming the first-ever K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy – though it was for best recording package (i.e. artwork) rather than music.
Meanwhile, BTS recently shared concept visuals for their new album – see below:
