Calvin Harris’ ‘Under Control’ debuts in at Number One in Official UK Singles Chart

Meanwhile, One Direction score fastest-selling album of their career with 'Midnight Memories'

Calvin Harris‘ ‘Under Control’ is this week’s Official UK Number One Single.

The successful Scottish producer/DJ teamed up with Alesso and Hurts’ frontman Theo Hutchcraft to record the track. The trio have knocked Lily Allen‘s cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, which can currently be heard on the John Lewis Christmas advert, off the top spot, reports the Official Charts Company.

At Number Two is Gary Barlow‘s ‘Let Me Go’. One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’, which has climbed seven places from Number 10, is at Number Three and Bastille’s ‘Of The Night’ – a cover of Corona’s ‘Rhythm Of The Night’ – completes this week’s Top 5.

Elsewhere, McFly claim this week’s second highest new entry with ‘Love Is On The Radio’ at Number 6 in the chart. Jessie J is this week’s highest climber, as ‘Thunder’ travels an incredible 42 places to finish the week at Number 40.

In the Official UK Album Chart, One Direction have scored the fastest-selling album of their career with ‘Midnight Memories’. According to Official Charts Company’s data, the album has sold more than 237,000 copies during the last seven days, beating the first week tallies of 2011’s ‘Up All Night’ (139,000) and 2012’s ‘Take Me Home’ (155,000 copies).

Gary Barlow’s ‘Since I Saw You Last’ is at Number Two, beating former Take That bandmate, Robbie Williams, whose album ‘Swings Both Ways’ is at Number Three. Olly Murs’ ‘Right Place Right Time’ is at Number Four and Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ is at Number Five.
