It's suitably surreal...
Blossoms have returned with the music video for ‘I Can’t Stand It’, the first track to be taken from their forthcoming second album. Watch it exclusively below on NME.com.
The clip is one of the most outlandish offerings to date from the Stockport band, and sees them channelling cult films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and A Clockwork Orange as singer Tom Ogden undergoes a mysterious medical procedure.
“The video was inspired by the film Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. I’m undergoing a procedure to erase memories of a former love”, Ogden explained.
“The video takes place in a surreal part of my mind, with the rest of the band as the doctors and surgeons.”
The track is the first to be taken from second album ‘Cool Like You’, which is released in April.
Speaking to NME, Ogden explained the joy of finally releasing their new offering after spending the majority of 2017 working on the follow up to their Mercury Prize nominated debut.
“We started in May and did ‘I Can’t Stand It’ with another tune. Then we’d go away and do some more shows and come back to it. In the end, we recorded it in 21 days or something like that, but over the course of maybe 4 months.
“We looked back at how can we improve ourselves, before we realised that we’ve gotta take our live setup up another level and have some more upbeat songs. I think that was all in the back of our minds for this record, making sure it had an extra spring in its step for the live shows.”
