Carly Rae Jepsen performed an original song during Grease: Live!, which aired on US TV overnight.
Fox’s live production of the 1971 production, which was made into a film in 1978 starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, was broadcast on Sunday (January 31).
The live version began with Jessie J singing ‘Grease Is The Word’ and included individual numbers for cast members including Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough, Joe Jonas and Jepsen. The latter performed as Frenchy and sang ‘All I Need is An Angel’, written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. The original Frenchy (Didi Conn) made a cameo appearance alongside Jepsen.
Vanessa Hudgens, who took on the role of Rizzo, revealed just hours before the live broadcast that her father had passed away after being diagnosed with cancer. “I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer,” she tweeted. “Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers. Tonight, I do the show in his honor,” she added.
Her performance of ‘There Are Worse Things I Could Do’ can be seen below alongide other Grease: Live! highlights.
