CeeLo Green deletes Twitter account following rape comments

Singer apologises after discussing court case in which he pleaded no contest to supplying a woman with ecstasy

CeeLo Green has deleted his Twitter account after posting a series of tweets relating to a recent court case in which he pleaded no contest to supplying ecstasy to a woman.

Green escaped jail time last month after pleading no contest to drugs charges. The singer was accused of secretly slipping ecstasy into the drink of his dinner date at a sushi restaurant in July 2012, and was sentenced to three years of formal probation and ordered to complete 360 hours of community service.

An earlier rape charge relating to the same alleged incident was dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Yesterday (September 1), as Billboard reports, Green deleted two tweets prior to removing his whole account in which he is alleged to have written: “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!” and “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent.”

The Gnarls Barkley singer is then alleged to have gone on to tweet: “Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context.”

He reportedly added: “I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”

However, at the time of writing (September 2), the account is inaccessible and appears to have been deleted.
