Chad Smith supergroup – featuring Chris Martin, Duff McKagan and more – to play at Will Ferrell’s charity show

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Josh Klinghoffer complete the line-up for Smith's all-star band

Chad Smith has formed a formidable supergroup consisting of musicians from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, Pearl Jam and Coldplay to play at a charity show which has been organised by Will Ferrell.

The Chilis drummer has assembled the band – who will go by the name Chad Smith’s Super Mega Funktastic Jam Rock All Stars – in time for Ferrell’s charity night next month, which has been dubbed ‘Will Ferrell’s Best Night of Your Life’. All proceeds from the show will go towards Cancer For College, which provides college scholarships to low-income, high-achieving cancer survivors.

The band will comprise of Smith on drums, Coldplay’s Chris Martin on vocals, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and the Chilis’ Josh Klinghoffer on guitar, and Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan on bass.

The supergroup will make their debut at ‘Will Ferrell’s Best Night of Your Life’ on October 6 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, with tickets set to go on sale at 10am tomorrow (September 21). The event will also feature appearances from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien.

Smith and Ferrell have been friends for a number of years, with fans having long pointed out that the drummer and the actor look very much alike. The pair memorably engaged in a ‘drum-off’ on The Tonight Show back in 2014.

Earlier this year, Smith challenged Ferrell to eat an actual red hot chili pepper as part of a viral charity challenge.
