The Chicago star's 'Colouring Book' follow-up is coming
Chance The Rapper has spoken of plans for his next record – saying that he’s in a “collaborative frame of mind” and has been working with Francis and the Lights and Childish Gambino.
The artist last released an album in the form of 2016’s ‘Colouring Book’. NME said of the LP: “Fizzingly fun, this third mixtape sees Chance finessing but certainly not hampering, his freewheeling nature.”
Now, in an interview with Beats 1, Chance has been asked about progress on the follow-up.
“I never really had a big, drawn-out plan,” he said. “I’m more in a collaborative frame of mind. I’ve been talking with this artist Francis and the Lights – we’re working on something.
“Me and [Young] Thug, we’ve been making songs forever. We’ve got so many songs, so we’ve been talking about dropping something together.”
He added: “Same thing with Donald Glover, Childish Gambino – a lot of people. I’ve just been making songs – that’s my shit right now, that’s what I’m into.”
Francis and the Lights have previously collaborated with Chance The Rapper on his track ‘Summer Friends’. The song samples the band’s own ‘Friends’.
Chance was interviewed via FaceTime by Ebro Darden, appearing alongside G Herbo to discuss their ‘Everything’ remix. The full chat is due to air on Beats 1 tonight (April 9) at 8:30 p.m (GMT). Tune in here.
Last month, the star said he has been working on “amazing” new music with Donald Glover and Kanye West.
Meanwhile, Chance has dropped a verse on fellow Chicago artist Saba’s track ‘LOGOUT’. He raps: “I know people with they friend request as their homepage/ Ain’t put a picture on the wall since the stone-age/ Feel locked up in they own cage, when they onstage”.
