Charli XCX working with Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij

The British singer is recording the follow-up to 2013 debut 'True Romance'

Charli XCX has revealed that she has worked with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend on her new album.

Charli XCX’s debut album, ‘True Romance’, was released in April 2013 and she also wrote the track ‘I Love It’, which become a smash hit for Icona Pop. XCX appears alongside Iggy Azalea on the Australian rapper’s new single ‘Fancy’, whose Clueless-themed music video was revealed earlier this month.

Speaking to Complex at SXSW in Austin, Texas the singer and songwriter said she hopes to release her next record in 2014, adding: “I did a session with Rivers from Weezer, which was awesome, and I did a session with Rostam from Vampire Weekend. Just loads of stuff that I want to do for myself. I know everyone says this about records they make but this is the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Last year, Charli XCX insisted that she didn’t regret giving ‘I Love It’ to the Swedish duo, even though it was originally penned during sessions for her own album. Speaking to NME she said: “I don’t regret giving it away. [Icona Pop are] totally owning it. I sang it with them at South By Southwest, though, and it was this real girl power moment.”
