Charli XCX says new album is her ‘most pop’ yet

Singer discusses her third album at NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas

Charli XCX has revealed that her new album is the “most pop” of her career.

The singer won the Best British Solo Artist prize supported by Pilot Pens at last night’s NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas. Keeping it simple on stage, she told the crowd at London’s O2 Academy Brixton: “This is weird. I always have a fun night here. Peace.”

Speaking to NME backstage, she said of her forthcoming third album and follow-up to last year’s well-received ‘Sucker’ LP: “It’s definitely the most pop thing I’ve done. It’s done, it just needs to be mixed.”

“I’ve been working with SOPHIE a lot on it, and Blood Pop and Stargate,” she added. “I’m not really telling anyone anything apart from that!”

Charli XCX has worked with frequent Rihanna collaborators Stargate in the past. ‘Same Old Love’, a song she wrote with the Norwegian songwriting-production duo, became a US Number Five hit for Selena Gomez last year.

Pushed for more information about her new album, Charli XCX replied: “I’m literally saying nothing else. I feel like I’m just gonna put it out and then the music can just do all the press for me. That’s the idea, right?” Watch her discussing her new album below.
