My Chemical Romance’s Mikey Way to release comic book on Gerard Way’s DC imprint

Mikey Way has penned a comic for his older brother's comic book imprint

Mikey Way, younger brother of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, has revealed that he has created his own comic book and will release it on Gerard’s DC Comic’s book imprint, Young Animal.

The comic, called Collapser will be released on July 17 and will see the younger Way receive his first writing credit.

Posting on social media, Mikey wrote: “The time has finally come where I can share something I’ve been working on for the past couple of years!

“Keeping this one a secret has been hard, as I’m beaming with excitement about this project. I want to present to you Collapser!! The next wave of Young Animal has been unleashed on the world.”

Mikey co-created on this project with writer Shaun Simon and illustrator Ilias Kyriazis. Simon had previously worked with Gerard on his project The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

Gerard is also planning to return to the Young Animal imprint himself with a new publication of Doom Patrol.

Recently, after much speculation, Gerard confirmed that season two of The Umbrella Academy is on the way with a short teaser trailer.

The hit show, based on a graphic novel by the elder Way, tells the tale of a group of kids – Spaceboy, the Kraken, the Rumor, the Séance, Number Five, the Horror, and the White Violin – born within 24 hours to women who weren’t even pregnant when they woke up.

Previously, there were several conflicting messages about the possibility of the show returning after its acclaimed first season. Way revealed that a season takes around 18 months to make, leading many to conclude that a new season wouldn’t arrive anytime soon. However, it then emerged last week that the production on the show was due to begin in May.

Now, Way and the show’s official social media accounts have shared a short teaser confirming that a second series “is coming”.
