Listen to Cher’s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ cover as she confirms details of ABBA covers album

The first taste of the icon taking on the Swedish group's songs is here

Cher has released her cover of ABBA‘s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme (A Man After Midnight)’ in full and confirmed details of her upcoming covers album, ‘Dancing Queen’.

The pop star appears in the new movie Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, in which she performs the ABBA track ‘Fernando’.

‘Dancing Queen’, a full record of Cher performing ABBA covers, has been confirmed to be released on September 28 via Warner Bros. Records after the singer teased her plans earlier this year. “After I did ‘Fernando’ [in the movie] I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs, so I did,” she told TODAY in July.

The 10-track album was recorded in London and Los Angeles with her long-time collaborator Mark Taylor. As well as ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’, which you can hear above, it also features versions of ‘SOS’, ‘Fernando’, ‘Waterloo’, and more.

The full tracklist for ‘Dancing Queen’ is as follows:

‘Dancing Queen’
‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’

‘The Name Of The Game’
‘SOS’
‘Waterloo’
‘Mamma Mia’
‘Chiquitita’
‘Fernando’
‘The Winner Takes It All’
‘One Of Us’

In a press release, Cher said: “I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times. After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking, ‘Why not do an album of their music?’ The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Cher chose to eat a cow’s tongue rather than say anything nice about Donald Trump in an interview.

Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the star took a bite out of the bovine body part after revealing she couldn’t “say one nice thing about” the current US President.
