The victim is hospitalised and needs surgery...

A security guard was stabbed during a SOUTH BY SOUTH WEST showcase in TEXAS for electro-rock outfit CHIKINKI.

The altercation occurred at around 1am last Saturday (March 21) after the Bristol-based band had finished their set at The Copper Tank in Austin.

A spokesman for the bar said the incident had not been fatal but the victim had needed surgery.

“There was a problem in one part of the bar and a security guard went over to deal with it. It was at that point that he was stabbed,” he told NME.COM.

“After the show we were just chilling out and suddenly the police came running in, they closed the place and told us to go home,” Chikinki frontman Rupert Browne said, adding, “There was an ambulance and we saw a stretcher being carried out. I think it happened in the kitchen which was also the backstage area.

“Things like this seem to happen to us all the time,” he admitted, “We played at Cargo (in London) about a month ago with Kasabian and we got bottled. This guy took offence when I jumped off stage and landed on his girlfriend. She didn’t seem to mind but he smashed a bottle and threw it at me. It missed me but hit Steve (drummer) on the shoulder. Later that night he hurt someone really badly and the police turned up to take him away.”
