But Rage's Tom Morello stresses that the former Soundgarden frontman is not joining the band permanently...

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE are to re-enter the studio with ex-SOUNDGARDEN vocalist CHRIS CORNELL.

A Rage press representative in the US has told MTV news that the singer will “jam” again with the remaining three members of the band in the coming weeks. Cornell has not been recruited as a full-time member of Rage, following the departure of Zack De La Rocha last year.

It is currently unclear if the results of the sessions will be released.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Cornell entered the studio with Rage earlier in the year to work on what guitarist Tom Morello described as “groundbreaking” material. It is thought the first sessions led to the recording of three tracks.

Morello said: “Chris Cornell is definitely not the singer of Rage Against The Machine, but the music that we made in the couple of days that we jammed together was really groundbreaking and fantastic, and was so exciting. He’s amazing…

“We’ve been jamming with some friends, and it’s been really fantastic, and the music we’ve been making the last couple months feels as great as anything we’ve ever done.”
