Christina Aguilera asks to sing with local New Orleans band, gets rejected

The band's lead singer later clarified that he didn't recognise the pop star

Christina Aguilera was turned down by a local band after asking to sing with them in a New Orleans bar.

The ‘Dirrty’ singer stopped by Cafe Negril on Thursday (November 8), the night before her ‘Liberation’ tour show at The Saenger Theater.

A local reggae band called Claude Bryant and the All Stars, who perform at the venue every Thursday, were playing a gig as Aguilera danced the night away inside. As Billboard reports, Aguilera later approached frontman Claude Bryant at the stage and asked if she could join them for a song.

In footage shared on Twitter, Aguilera is heard saying to Bryant: “You don’t want that? Oh, it’s OK. I don’t have to sing.”

The next evening, Aguilera explained the situation to her audience: “I go to this little bar and there’s this live band playing, and I was with a couple of my dancers and I was just like, ‘Let me just get up on stage and jam with this guy. Maybe I’ll sing a song or whatever and be fun.’

“He would not give me the mic. He was, like, a little older and he was just like, he was not feeling it.”

Bryant later told WGNO that he rejected her offer because he didn’t realise who she was.

“I’m sorry, Christina. I just didn’t recognize you! I didn’t recognize her because she had a cap over her head and over her eyes. She was in a jersey. She didn’t introduce herself to me.”
