Williams originally performed the song live with Chvrches in Nashville last October, before going on to appear with the band to play it at a number of shows including Paramore’s Parahoy! Cruise in March. She was subsequently asked to record the parts of the track she sang shortly after, and the resulting rework is now being released on an extended version of ‘Every Open Eye’, which will land on July 29 via Virgin EMI/Goodbye Records.
Speaking about the collaboration, Williams said, “It’s been the coolest getting to know Chvrches after having been a fan of the band for a while. I feel like Lauren and I really work well together on the song, vocally. I was surprised how natural it felt.
“‘Bury It’ has such good energy and I really relate to it emotionally as well. When they asked me to record the parts I had sung live with them, it was a no-brainer. Anytime I’ve worked on music outside of Paramore, it’s always been something I really truly connect with and this time is no different. I’m honoured to work with Chvrches, to know them, and to be a part of the life of this song.”
The ‘Bury It’ rework follows Chvrches detailing news of a new track called ‘Warning Call’ last month (May), which features on the soundtrack of a new video game called Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The band will also play Glastonbury, Latitude and Reading & Leeds Festival this summer.
