The new offering is the first time that the two acts have collaborated – and it sees Marshmello heading in a slightly different direction. While relying on the electronic production that has defined his earlier efforts, the opening is markedly restrained and provides a rare chance for him to experiment with guitars.
“Can I tell you something, just between you and me?,” asks CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry on the new track.
“When I hear your voice I’m finally free.”
It’s also accompanied by an animated lyric video, featuring cartoon interpretations of both Marshmello and Mayberry.
The release comes after CHVRCHES released their third album ‘Love is Dead’ in 2018.
In a four star review, NME wrote: “In these times, it would be surprising to find the band looking inward, and ‘Love Is Dead’ manages to balance hopeful, utopian pop with a darker, gloomier undercurrent. Love may not be dead after all, but if you ask CHVRCHES, the onus is on all of us to try and keep it alive.”
Meanwhile, Marshmello played a live set on Fortnite last month – with fans hailing it as “one of the coolest things ever seen in a video game.”
