Cillian Murphy reveals which U2-written song he was “obsessed” with

The 'Peaky Blinders' star talked about his love for the band during a guest DJ stint on BBC Radio 6 Music on Friday (January 26)

Cillian Murphy has revealed that he was “obsessed” with the U2-written song ‘She’s A Mystery To Me’, which was recorded by the late Roy Orbison.

The Peaky Blinders star voiced his admiration for the song during his guest DJ slot on BBC Radio 6 Music, which airs this evening (January 26) from 7-9pm – you can listen to the show here. Murphy was filling in for regular 6 Music presenter Iggy Pop.

Ahead of the premiere of the show, a short preview clip featuring Murphy talking about ‘She’s A Mystery To Me’ was released.

The song, which was written by Bono and The Edge, was offered to Orbison by the U2 duo and served as the leading single on the singer’s final album ‘Mystery Girl’, which was released in 1989.

In the 6 Music Show which airs tonight, Murphy reveals that he was “obsessed” with the song as a child.

“It’s a beautiful synergy of the best bits of U2’s songwriting with that angelic voice Roy Orbison had, and I was obsessed with that song as an 11-year-old,” the actor says.
