Man who proposed at Coldplay gig ‘gobsmacked’ by reaction

Brad Schofield surprised his girlfriend who thought he’d ask later that weekend

The man who proposed to his girlfriend at Coldplay’s gig on Friday (June 17) has admitted he’s “gobsmacked” that the footage of his proposal has gone viral.

Brad Schofield got down on one knee and asked his girlfriend Marie Parlanti to marry him as Coldplay began playing ‘Fix You’ at the band’s Wembley Stadium show.

Fans began singing along as Parlanti said yes, and fan-shot footage of the proposal has been viewed over 50,000 times on YouTube.

The couple have been together for seven years and plan to get married in summer 2018.

Schofield, from Brixton, South London, admitted he had already planned to propose to Parlanti during a weekend away in Brighton following the Coldplay concert. He told ITV News: “Marie caught wind that it was going to happen, so I took the engagement ring along to the concert and didn’t tell anyone. It was a pretty special moment.”

As well as being Coldplay fans, Schofield and Parlanti are fans of Gavin And Stacey, the BBC1 sitcom in which Pete (Adrian Scarborough) quotes ‘Fix You’ while he and Dawn (Julia Davis) renew their marriage vows. “That episode is one we always laugh about,” said Schofield.

Coldplay finished their Wembley Stadium residency yesterday, and headline Glastonbury on Sunday. Their last scheduled UK show of 2016 is at Kensington Palace next Tuesday (June 28) when they headline a benefit for Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale.
