While the likes of Bowie look on, a fan gets to sing with her idols at their biggest US show...
completed their massively successful US tour at the legendary MADISON SQUARE GARDEN in NEW YORK with help from a generous fan.
The show on Friday (June 13) took place in the largest US venue they’ve headlined (and sold out) to date, and the band were watched by the likes of [a][/a] and singer Chris Martin’s fiancée Gwyneth Paltrow.
The set, which included the unreleased songs ‘Moses’ and ‘The World Turns Upside Down’, as well as a snippet of Cher’s ‘Believe’, closed with an acoustic version of ‘In My Place’ sang mostly by a female fan named Kristy, who won a charity auction to appear on stage with the group.
Kristy bid $350,000 to sing with the band at the concert and Martin asked the crowd to “treat her like a rock star and cheer madly for her.”
The money will go to the Robin Hood Foundation, a New York charity devoted to helping poverty in the city, which has a long-list of celebrity supporters (including Paltrow). The charity, which set up the 9/11 Fund to help the September 11 victims’ families, was one of the main organisers behind the all-star ‘Concert for New York’ in October 2001.
