‘POP IDOL’ loser DARIUS DANESH has held on to the top-spot on the UK charts for a second week with ‘COLOURBLIND’.
Darius, the third contestant from ‘Pop Idol’ to top the UK singles chart, this afternoon (August 12), edges Coldplay’s comeback tune ‘In My Place’ into the number two spot.
Darius shifted just shy of 62,500 copies this week, while Coldplay moved almost 46,000.
Meanwhile, Madhouse’s cover of Madonna‘s ‘Like A Prayer’ is the second highest new entry at Three, one place above another ‘Pop Idol’ graduate, Gareth Gates, who slips to Number Four with his second single ‘Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)’.
The only other new entry on the Ten comes at Eight from Bowling For Soup with ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’.
On down the chart, rising US rapper Cam’ron debuts at 13 with ‘Oh Boy’, two ahead of ATC at 15 with ‘Around The World’. A little further down, hoary old veterans Status Quo return to the charts at 17 with their 51st hit ‘Jam Side Down’, beating [/a], who take a bow at 18 with ‘Time Of My Life’. It’s a good week for veterans beyond their salad days as Def Leppard return at 23 with ‘Now’. They appear just behind ‘Remind Me/So Easy’ from Royksopp at 21 and ‘Luv Da Sunshine’ at 22 from Intenso Project.
The only other new entry on the 40 comes at 37 from Raven Maize with ‘Fascinated’ at .
While [a]’s post September 11 album ‘The Rising’ continues to dominate in the US – where it sold over 500,000 on its first week – it slips to Number Two in the UK after a week at the top. Red Hot Chili Peppers climb back to the top with ‘By The Way’. Meanwhile, Primal Scream score the only new entry on the Top 10 at nine with ‘Evil Heat’, and Vanessa Carlton climbs a huge 24 places from 31 to seven with ’Be Not Nobody’.
