The band play homage to Scandinavian pop, as well as more new songs...

COLDPLAY continued their tradition of bizarre cover versions by belting out AQUA’s ‘BARBIE GIRL’ while on tour in Scandinavia.

The group are currently on tour in northern Europe promoting their second album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’.

According to fans at the show in the Copenhagen VK Hall (November 21), Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland covered Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’, the Scandinavian pop group’s massive 1997 hit.

One told NME.COM: “Yes it is true! Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland covered ‘Barbie Girl’ with Chris doing the Barbie voice and Johnny doing Ken. It was awful and yet amazing at the same time but they had to quit one minute in to the song because they couldn’t stop laughing and it really was a spectacular sight!”

The group have covered all manner of different songs on tour, including Nelly‘s ‘Hot In Herre’, Oasis‘ ‘Songbird’ and Ash‘s ‘Shining Light’.

Elsewhere on the tour, Coldplay have played more new songs. In Copenhagen they played a new song with a working title of ‘Gravity’, while in Stockholm on Saturday night (November 23),¬†they played another new song called ‘Marianne’, which is a “full on rock song” according to fans.

Coldplay return to the US in December for more shows. They will tour throughout January and February, returning to the UK in April for gigs at the Manchester MEN Arena (April 14) and London Earl’s Court (16-17). All three have sold out.
