‘YELLOW’ FEVER

The band's single 'Yellow' has a midweek of number four...

Coldplay look set to crash into the UK top five this weekend with their single ‘YELLOW’.

The track, released last Monday (June 26) through Parlophone, is currently at number four in the mid-week charts. Although unlikely to be the final position of the song, Coldplay will still undoubtedly appear in the Top 10.

‘Yellow’ is only Coldplay‘s second major label release. ‘Shiver’ peaked at number 35 in March of this year and followed the ‘Safety EP’ and ‘Brothers & Sisters’ single on independent Fierce Panda in 1999. The London four piece – who were championed by NME at the start of this year, when they appeared on the bill of the NME Premier Tour – will release their hotly-anticipated debut album ‘Parachutes’, also through Parlophone, on July 10.

Of other singles released this week, only Eminem and Samantha Mumba, the new act managed by Boyzone and Westlife svengali Louis Walsh, are selling more. Coldplay are out-performing established chart names Vengaboys and Ocean Colour Scene and nudging former ‘EastEnders’ actor Sid Owen, Wu-Tang Clan bad boy Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Blink 182 out of the Top 10.

In other Coldplay news, the band were forced to cancel a show at La Maroquinerie in Paris last night (June 28) because it clashed with France‘s semi-final appearance in the Euro 2000 competition. They issued an apology to fans late yesterday through the Coldplay website ([url=]www.coldplay.com) saying: “It was anticipated that this evening’s match would prove an irresistible diversion from the band’s gig. Many apologies to anyone who bought tickets.”

An announcement regarding rescheduling and reimbursements is expected later.
