Coldplay say Guns N’ Roses inspired their new single – listen

'Adventure Of A Lifetime' was released on Friday, it features on new album 'A Head Full Of Dreams'

Coldplay have explained how Guns N’ Roses influenced their new track ‘Adventure Of A Lifetime’.

The band announced details of their seventh album ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ on Friday (November 6), sharing disco-inspired new single ‘Adventure Of A Lifetime’ in the process.

Speaking about the lead track on SiriusXM, Chris Martin said: “When we finished [the song], we were like, ‘Okay we are probably ready to come out again’. This is one of those songs that brings everything else together on a project. I’m not really on it that much – I sing a bit and play a bit of piano — but it’s really the rest of the band on form. It makes me happy to listen to it.”

Martin continued: “I’d been begging Jonny [Buckland] our guitarist for years to make a riff that I like as much as ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns N’ Roses, then he showed me that one, and I was like, ‘That’s it!’ So those elements all came together, and we just wanted to kind of embrace our love of joyful music and sort of let it free.”

On the album as a whole, the singer added: “We just wanted to make this big, colourful, joyful thing called ‘A Head Full of Dreams’. So just after we did that little bit of promo for ‘Ghost Stories’ the last album, we went right back in [the studio] and didn’t emerge until about a month ago”.

“We toured so much a couple of years before, that I think everyone could see that we were just having a great time in the studio and we had such a clear idea of where we were trying to get to. Everyone was very cool and said, ‘You guys can go back [to the studio]’. Our label and all the people that hold the power, they were very kind.”

‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ will be released on December 4 via Parlophone/Atlantic and features unlikely guest cameos from Beyonce, Noel Gallagher and Tove Lo.

Speaking about the new album previously to Zane Lowe, frontman Chris Martin hinted that the record could be the band’s last, saying: “It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something… I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”
