Cornershop have been dropped by their label WIIIJA.
FrontmanTjinder Singh and bandmate Ben Ayres have been together for ten years, and hit the top slot in the UK singles chart in 1998 with Fatboy Slim‘s remix of ‘Brimful Of Asha’. But sales of recent album ‘Handcream For A Generation’ were disappointing, and now the band are without a record deal.
According to today’s (October 1) Sun newspaper, Singh told friends he is disgusted with the music industry, and is planning to retire from music completely.
A friend said: “He thinks music is all about ‘Pop Idol’ these days and that nobody cares about proper music any more. He doesn’t see the point in carrying on.”
When NME.COM contacted Ayres, he played down the story and said the band would issue a full statement shortly.
A spokesperson for Wiiija confirmed today that the band have left the label but was unaware of the bandmembers’ future plans.
