Couple arrested after ‘leaving daughter at home to watch metal band Godflesh’

They travelled all the way from Houston to Detroit.

A Texas couple have been arrested after they allegedly left their daughter at home to attend a show by influential metal veterans Godflesh.

John Guerrero, 48, and wife Virginia Yearnd, 39, reportedly left their 11-year-old daughter as they travelled from Houston to Detroit to catch the veteran Birmingham band in action.

The girl’s great aunt first notified authorities after discovering that the youngster was left alone. Upon arrival at the house, they found the daughter trying to cook herself a meal.

Guerrero and Yearnd were arrested as they returned to Houston on Monday (August 27). They reportedly told authorities that Yearnd’s sister had been instructed to look after their daughter, but she has denied that any such agreement was organised.

The couple were booked on second degree child endangerment charges and face up to 20 years in jail if convicted.

In Texas, a parent can be charged with child endangerment if it is deemed that he or she “intentionally abandons the child in any place under circumstances that expose the child to an unreasonable risk of harm”.

Godflesh, who initially formed in 1982, were only playing a select set of U.S. dates after a show at the Psycho Las Vegas festival.

The band are yet to comment on the incident.
