Australian singer first recorded cover version during NME session in January
Courtney Barnett joined Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando for a live version of his band’s song ‘Being Around’ in Australia earlier this week.
Barnett, who first covered the Lemonheads song during a session for NME, joined the band during their gig at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Wednesday night (December 10). Watch footage of the performance below. The original cover version can also be found at the bottom of the page.
‘Being Around’ is one of a number of covers Barnett has performed live, with her version of ‘Cannonball’ by The Breeders appearing online in September. Barnett revealed that the track, taken from the US band’s 1993 album ‘The Last Splash, provided inspiration when she came to record her own album earlier this year.
The Australian’s take on the ’90s classic follows Barnett covering the entirety of the INXS album ‘Kick’ earlier this year. The performance took place as part of label Pure Pop’s Summer Of Classic Albums series.
Barnett recently finished recording her debut album, which is due for release in the new year. It will be the follow-up to her 2013 double EP ‘A Sea of Split Peas’.
A new song from Barnett called ‘Pickles In The Jar’ was revealed in August. The track features on a compilation from Milk! Records, Barnett’s own label.
