Courtney Love could see drug charges against her dropped if she completes a treatment programme.
The embattled star is negotiating a plea deal to resolve charges dating back to an October arrest in Los Angeles. Under the terms of the deal, charges against the singer would be dropped if Courtney Love completes a drug treatment programme.
According to Billboard, assistant supervising attorney Jerry Baik said on behalf of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office: “It’s a great idea for her because she can probably benefit from the programme, and if she completes the programme she won’t have a conviction in the case. But if she fails to complete… this programme then she will be required to do 90 days in jail.”
Baik also confirmed that following her arrest, Courtney Love had tested positive for drugs, including cocaine: “One of the drugs that’s important to us has been cocaine, and that came out positive.”
Both Courtney Love and the prosecution must now return to court on May 25 to cement the deal, or a trial would commence. LA Superior Court Judge Patricia Schregg said: “No more delays. This case has gone just way too long.”
Courtney Love faces separate charges in Beverly Hills over possession of prescription painkillers. She was also arrested in March in New York after a show ended in violence.
