Craig David has scored his first UK Number One album in 16 years with ‘Following My Intuition’.
He beat off Bon Iver‘s latest LP ’22, A Million’ by just 4,500 copies. It is his first album chart topper since his debut ‘Born To Do It’ in 2000.
“The last Number 1 I had was with ‘Born To Do It’ 16 years ago so to have another and to share it with so many amazing people – it’s surreal,” he said. “I’m seeing two generations connecting – the people who have been with me since 1999 and the crew who are just discovering me, both connecting on the same music, it’s the most amazing feeling. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I don’t know what’s going on right now!”
David recently spoke out about the impact of the series Bo’ Selecta, and how Leigh Francis’ character mocking him ‘stopped him from releasing music in the way he wanted to’ in the noughties.
Elsewhere, Radiohead‘s ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ has shot 80 places to Number Five following the release of the deluxe edition of the album. Slaves scored their highest entry in the UK albums chart with ‘Take Control’ at Number Six, just ahead of Pixies who came in at Number Seven.
In the singles chart James Arthur is refusing to budge from the top with ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’. He beat The Weeknd’s Starboy feat. Daft Punk who rises one place to 2, by over 27,000 combined chart sales.
‘Say You Won’t let Go’ is also the most streamed track of the week, racking up 5.03 million listens over the last seven days.
Meanwhile, former One Direction star Niall Horan has scored his first solo Top 10 single, as ‘This Town’ lands at Number Nine, following its surprise release late last Thursday (September 29).
