Cypress Hill to perform seminal album ‘Black Sunday’ in full at Lovebox

Our prayers have been answered

Cypress Hill will treat festival goers at Lovebox 2019 to a performance of ‘Black Sunday’ in its entirety.

The Californian hip-hop legends will play their groundbreaking 1993 album, which spawned hits including ‘Insane in the Brain’, in an exclusive set on Friday, July 12 that will also include songs from the group’s other records.

The group join Solange, Chance The Rapper, BROCKHAMPTON, Loyle Carner, Lizzo, Annie Mac, Four Tet, Slowthai, Green Velvet, FKJ, Ross from Friends, Children Of Zeus, Jayda G, Cupcakke, Krystal Klear and Solomon for the festival held on July 12 and 13 in London’s Gunnersbury Park.

Cypress Hill released their last record, ‘Elephants on Acid’, in 2018. NME’s review said that the act’s ninth album is “one for the hardcore fans only…a relentless odyssey into the weird.

When it’s great, we see exactly why the world first pricked up its ears in 1991. But those moments are sadly overshadowed by a barrage of tracks that become increasingly surreal and tedious as the record progresses.”

Meanwhile, Cypress Hill rapper B-Real will headline Boomtown festival this August as part of Prophets of Rage, his supergroup side project with members of Public Enemy, Audioslave, and Rage Against The Machine.

The Streets and Ms. Lauryn Hill also top the bill.
