Daft Punk make rare TV appearance at VMAs and release video teaser – watch

Retro-style 'Lose Yourself To Dance' video shows the French duo performing with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers

Daft Punk made a “surprise” appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York last night (August 25).

The French duo appeared on stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn alongside their recent collaborators Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers to present the Best Female Video award to Taylor Swift, who won for ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’.

Though Daft Punk did not perform at the awards bash, they did show a one-minute teaser from their forthcoming ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’ video. Daft Punk announced earlier this month that ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’ will be their follow-up single to Number One hit ‘Get Lucky’.

Daft Punk’s VMAs appearance was not officially announced beforehand, but comedian Stephen Colbert had claimed earlier this month that the duo pulled out of their scheduled appearance on his show The Colbert Report on August 6 because MTV had booked them for the VMAs. “Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards,” Colbert explained on his show that night. “Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: no one told me until two hours ago.”

MTV later denied “banning” Daft Punk from appearing on Colbert’s show, insisting it was the French duo and their management who made the decision to pull out.
