Welcome to the Daily Gossip: your daily stop-off to find out what the stars of the music world have been up to in the tabloids and beyond, with the help of plenty of “anonymous sources”.
Today’s top gossip:
Sad news begins today’s music gossip round-up, as Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson have announced they are to divorce.
The pair released a statement in which they said: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honour our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives” (various).
From the papers and beyond:
Lady Gaga‘s new single ‘Born This Way’ has been getting some early reviews, with Elton John pronouncing it the “gayest song” he has ever heard. The singer also admitted that she’d written the song in “ten fucking minutes” (American Vogue).
The Brit Awards are drawing nearer, and according to the red-tops today (February 10), the organisers could be short of a few dressing rooms. Both Rihanna and Tinie Tempah are planning spectacular shows on the night and the event could feature more than 300 backing dancers. Someone may have to get changed in the bogs, then (Daily Star).
Chipmunk has thrown down the gauntlet to the Brits organisers too. Apparently, the pint-sized rapper has vowed to pelt the stage with tomatoes if his mate Tinie Tempah doesn’t win anything (Daily Record).
After yesterday’s revelations that Keith Richards’ disparaging remarks about the size of Mick Jagger’s manhood may have put paid to plans for The Rolling Stones‘ tour this year, Marianne Faithful has defended the singer’s crown jewel. Asked if Richards‘ comments were accurate, she replied: “Not quite, but nearly.” Hardly a ringing endorsement (Daily Mirror).
In news that will have Jay-Z and Kanye West worried this morning, Tom Hanks‘ son Chester has launched a new career as a rapper. Performing under the name Chet Haze, he’s posted some of his raps online, with such brilliant turns of phrase such as, “My balls get served more hard than Serena playing tennis“. Watch a video of him in action at the bottom of this page (The Sun).
The Pretty Reckless ‘ Taylor Momsen has told the media that she’d love to work with Noel Gallagher. “I’d do a song with all of Oasis but I’d love to write a song with Noel,” she said. Not Beady Eye? (Misformusic.com)
