Brits voting glitch leads to Deadmau5 and Aphex Twin being ‘nominated’ – Daily Gossip

Plus Simon Cowell and Example snubbed - your music gossip stop

Welcome to the Daily Gossip: your daily stop-off to find out what the stars of the music world have been up to in the tabloids and beyond, with the help of plenty of “anonymous sources”.

Today’s top gossip:

Voting for this year’s Best British Single at the Brit Awards was hit by a hitch when the website where votes were being cast, Brits.co.uk, suggested that a slew of artists who were not up for awards had, in fact, been nominated yesterday (January 13).

The listed tracks by the likes of Deadmau5, Aphex Twin and Fake Blood instead of Tinie Tempah, Matt Cardle, Florence And The Machine, Alexandra Burke and the like who were actually nominated (see screen grab pictured). Brit Awards organisers have said that due to the amount of traffic the site had the incorrect listings were shown – although internet order has been restored since.

From the papers and beyond:

Last night’s Brit nominations announcement dominates the tabloids today, too. James Corden, who has been booked to host the next three Brit Awards ceremonies, was apparently taken aback by the negative reaction when it was announced he was hosting. He said via his Twitter page, Twitter.com/jkcorden: “I just read some comments about me hosting the Brits. I’m not sure what to say really except I’ll try my best. I was looking forward to it.” Corden then retweeted some of more negative comments he’d seen, including one that described him as an “unfunny, uncharismatic, mingy has-been”. He was alright when he did the Shockwaves NME Awards

Simon Cowell is smarting after the Brit Awards nomination committee overlooked all his X Factor stars. Matt Cardle, Alexandra Burke and Olly Murs are up for Best British Single, but that’s voted for by the fans. Apparently Cowell‘s taken it in good grace though, with a source saying: “Simon‘s happy. He doesn’t need to be cool” (Daily Mirror).

Example was less gracious, having missed out on a nod for Best British Single for ‘Kickstarts’. He told his Twitter followers via Twitter.com/example that he “didn’t like award ceremonies anyway” (The Sun).

In non-Brits-related news, Kings Of Leon bassist Jared Followhill has been trying his hand at Chatroulette.com. Followhill told potential chatters via his Twitter page, Twitter.com/youngfollowhill that he was “wearing a striped sweater. And most likely dancing”.

Finally, Wyclef Jean bumped into former Fugees bandmate Pras Michel on a flight recently, sparking rumours of a possible reunion. Jean said “they had a lot to talk about”, but that “at the end of the day Pras is my brother and Lauryn [Hill] is my sister, despite what the media say.” Don’t mark the reunion date in your diaries just yet then (BBC Newsbeat).
