Bob Marley’s son is turning a prison into a cannabis factory

California State prison will cultivate medical marijuana thanks to a new project from Damian Marley

Bob Marley‘s youngest son Damian Marley has announced that he will convert a prison into a cannabis factory.

Billboard reports that reggae artist Damian has teamed up with the company Ocean Grown Extracts to turn California State prison into a growth space cultivating medical marijuana.

“Many people sacrificed so much for the herb over the years who got locked up,” says Marley. “If this [project] helps people and it’s used for medicinal purposes and inspires people, it’s a success.”

Dan Dalton, Marley’s longtime manager, adds of the news: “Cannabis is something that’s around Damian every day with friends, family and with his Rastafarian faith. We’ve watched people who have sacrificed their lives for it. That injustice has motivated us to be advocates as well as knowing that there are healing properties in cannabis.”

It was recently reported that a Bob Marley stage musical based on his life and music is coming to the UK next year.

One Love: The Bob Marley Musical will feature the reggae legend’s classic tracks including ‘No Woman No Cry’, ‘Exodus’ and ‘Jamming’. It is set to premiere at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on March 10 in 2017 and will run until April 8.
