Dan Mangan covers Lauryn Hill’s ‘Ex-Factor’

Track released in advance of Mangan's new album "Club Meds"

Dan Mangan has unveiled a new cover version of Lauryn Hill‘s 1998 single “Ex-Factor”.

The track’s release comes as the Canadian musician prepares his forthcoming fifth album “Club Meds”, which is due out on January 13 under the moniker Dan Mangan + Blacksmith. Click below to listen.

Though his version of “Ex-Factor” is not part of the new record, Mangan believes it continues the delicate and introspective theme of “Club Meds”.

“I’ve always loved this song,” he said in a statement upon its release. “I couldn’t think of having heard any covers of Lauryn Hill. Maybe it’s because she’s too amazing and I’m a fool and nobody really should cover Lauryn Hill, but this chorus has been in and out of my head since the 90s. It says so much with just a handful of words.”

“Club Meds” is the first record to be co-credited to Mangan’s band Blacksmith, which is made up of Kenton Loewen (drums), Gordon Grdina (guitar), John Walsh (bass) and often JP Carter (trumpet), Jesse Zubot (violin) and Tyson Naylor (keys).
